'If you don't study, you'll be a bin man'
Have you ever sat in a classroom and heard your teacher say something along the lines of ‘if you don’t study, you’ll be a bin man’. Now, I understand what that aims to achieve, in terms of motivating students, however it would be absurd to say this is acceptable. Because, while it isn’t the most glamorous job, that requires a degree and a impressive set of university provided skills, it’s still important.
Without bin men, people would swim in trash on their way to work and school, it would be disgusting and unhygienic and thus, trash collection is actually vital for communities and society overall. If starting tomorrow, all the bin men were gone, you would have no idea what to do with your household waste. It would end up on the street, festering, along with billions of others’ waste.
Also, it is important to note that it is a job. Thus, meaning that it has nothing to do with the person’s character, it is a means of providing an income. Whether the person has a family or not, they need a sustainable income in order to provide food, shelter, clothes and other necessities (and remember a low-skill job is better than no job every time) in order to survive. My mother always says that whatever your job is, you shouldn’t be ashamed, because you are providing yourself, and maybe your family also, with a means of survival...
