One of the biggest issues that woc (black women especially; this is the perspective i’m coming from) have with white mainstream feminism is the fact that our experiences aren’t included in the discourse. hypersexualization is a huge part of those problems. feminine sexuality is basically the fucking madonna/whore complex. but y’all don’t seem to understand that we’re not all being put on the same side of the slash.
black women are aggressive, or aren’t considered to be feminine at all, because our sexuality is built in diametric opposition to white women’s. so the way that we approach sex positivity is entirely different. we’re expected to be promiscuous, we’re expected to have a whole gang of kids with different daddies and shit. we can’t exactly embrace being called whores because people already expect us to be whores. like, don’t even get me started on the gross fetishization shit that happens with dark skinned black women.
for white women, it’s empowering to be the knight in armor, swinging the sword, fucking shit up like Brienne of Tarth. And that’s awesome. But for black women, it’s also empowering to be the desirable, gentle hearted damsel in distress, because we don’t get to do that. We have to be tough and mean and aggressive all the time. We don’t get to be that traditional ideal of femininity. Because we’re black. We aren’t allowed to be feminine. We’re always Michonne. We don’t always get to be Broomhilda.
Nicki Minaj was right to be proud. Because that’s the way the industry works for black women. it’s unfair, ridiculous bullshit, and we all suffer from it. Get mad that she has to be put in that position.
