Isn’t it weird how people change and grow apart and stop talking?
Then one day you see this person who you swore you were going to be friends with forever, and you have absolutely nothing to say to them. It finally hits you that you will never be close to that person again.
You’re not going to have them be one of your bridesmaids, you’re not going to show them your new favorite book, you’re not going to introduce them to better bands or your new friends, you’re not going to whisper your latest secrets to them, you’re not going to go on vacations with them, you’re not going to go see that new movie or concert together, and sadly you’re not ever going to trust them again.
The more time goes on, the more things change, and you grow too far apart for it to ever be possible to reconnect. You start to think “They wouldn’t even recognize my room now, I’ve changed it so much”, “They don’t know what my new house looks like”, “They don’t know about the new little addition to the family”, or “They wouldn’t even recognize ME anymore.”
Then you slowly just replace them because that’s all you have left to do. You forget about them. You let the memories fade. You let it go. Until finally, you don’t recognize them anymore either.
I think that’s one of the saddest things I’ve come to terms with.
